This easy DIY mane requires just a few supplies that you might already have at home. Soon kitty will be ready to rule the Animal Kingdom... or at least look adorable for a quick photo op.

Step-by-step: How to make a DIY lion mane for your cat
What you'll need
- A ball chunky yarn in light brown, tan, yellow or orange
- A piece of cardboard measuring roughly 5" wide (a meowbox lid works purrfectly)
- Flat elastic, cut to 1/2" longer than the circumference of where you will be fitting the lion mane on your cat (ideal placement is under the chin and just behind the ears)
- Self-adhesive velcro
- Scissors
Instructions
1. Cut a piece of yarn to about 8" long, to use as your pom pom tie.
2. Wrap the ball of yarn around the 5” section of cardboard enough times to make a loose pompom.
3. Slide the yarn off the cardboard and tie the pre-cut 8" yarn piece in the centre into a secure double knot.
4. Sliding your scissors into the yarn loop on each side, snip open both loops and give the ball a fluff. Don't trim the pom pom tie yarn just yet!
5. Repeat this process to make 6-8 pom poms in total, depending on the size of your cat’s neck.
6. Trim the velcro to fit the width of your elastic.
7. Apply the velcro to both ends of your elastic, ensuring it fits your cat comfortably while being able to slide your fingers underneath it. Trim off any excess elastic.
8. Tie all 6 pom poms to one side of the elastic, spacing them out evenly.
9. Trim the long ends of the pom pom ties.
10. Adjust the pom pom spacing to your liking.
11. Gently fit the mane under kitty's chin and behind their ears, transforming your house cat into King or Queen of the beasts!
The best accessory is a happy kitty! If your cat appears stressed or uncomfortable, it's time to take the mane off.
